As Mpls gets its first line of thunderstorms of the year, I turned on TWC and was delighted to see some nice improvements to the IntelliSTAR today!

MUCH EASIER TO COMPREHEND ICONS! Thank you! The other ones looked nice but you could hardly distinguish between fog, rain and snow - nor distinguish between different intensities of precip.

The lower display ticker looks awesome! It's great to see some color in it besides blue! The yellow/orange makes for a nice contrast. Its also cool to see the icons are now animated in the lower display ticker.

Great work STAR team!

I noticed it too...still has a couple of bugs in it, like the black bar on the left side of the screen, but still, now you can tell what is what (like Chazz said). I say this: It might be a profound hearkening back to the WS4000 days, at least in terms of graphic simplicity (and look at where the city's name is, with the beveled orange bar with the blue.)

I agree, Charles! I don't get a local forecast, but was able to see the new icons via a YouTube video. Much better indeed! :2thumbsup:

Just courious, does this new upgrade have any impact to those who have the XL? We no longer get any local info down at the bottom of the screen.

This is a perfect way to begin this new decade! I like the icons used to represent the sun, since they are a bit of a throwback to the WeatherStar 4000. And the rain drops look better too! The LDL-over-national is more detailed too, offering a look at Radars, 36-hour Forecasts, and Current Conditions.

I disagree. I don't like the new LDL bar. It no longer give the travel weather for major cities in relationship to your city, there's no traffic scrolling at the bottom, like there was before the update, no almanac that tells you the precipitation for the month. No local weather ID, either. Why did they take these features away?

I guess the reason I don't like it all boils down to the fact that I don't like change.

Three words sum up my feelings about these new icons...

I LIKE IT! :dancing:

The rain is soooo much easier to see. The lone negative is that I think the sun icon is a bit large, but I like these icons 100x more than the previous set.

THANK YOU STAR TEAM!

I agree. This new graphics or whatever don't show the precipitation for the month or the city. I also notice they have these new graphics on a very busy severe weather day.

I don't think the LDL should take up nearly half the screen. With it now showing radar and satellite/radar along with a 36 hour forecast and hour-by hour forecast, there's really no longer a need for a local forecast on the 8's. Plus there's no clock! The icon animation is too quick IMO. I thought that the local forecast would be updated as well but it goes back to the older style LDL.

I also noticed that the graphics on the maps have gone to a more simplified look.

I'll get used to it eventually.

That's right, why the local on the 8s if this already tells you - that is what I was thinking. One upside, it comes in handy during their long-form programming. And I didn't even realize that there isn't even a clock. I want the old LDL back.

All I want now is a clock.

And, this is probaly irrelivent, but will a new LF theme be introduced later on in the year to flor better with the new LDL, and to replace the old one on the LFs?

And a complaint about the LDL, well, more of a glitch. If I look closely in the area of the LDL on the left (STAR ID 22842 East Lansing - Comcast), I'll often times see text flash in the empty area on the left. This is beginning to bother the eyes a bit lol. If that could be fixed, it would be appreciated.

I'm digging the new look too. I can see why they formatted it to take up the lower third of the screen at times: It works well when it's matched against their HD screens. when they're not displaying regional info above the LDL.

I noticed that the fonts for the satellite version is different from the IntelliStar version, but it's still a nice match with the programming.

Now if they can only change the fonts/graphics on the actual IntelliStar LO8s to match the LDL. If they can put radar on the LDL, I'm sure there's enough memory to change the LO8s fonts/graphics.

Well the average viewer is not gonna wait every 10 minutes on the 8s of every hour to see a local forecast, so in reality I think it makes it more convient to get that information if they miss the LF when it comes onespecially during long form programming when you'll only see the LF twice an hour.

When I saw it yesterday I guess I caught it when it was in "nearly half screen" mode. I like it better when it's displayed in its smaller size.

I really like the new design & WS4000 look of the new graphics. Nice improvement.

One complaint though is that its' size blocks out too much of the video clips & segments aired. For example, today during an Iditarod race update segment a clip of a musher & his dog team were moving along a trail except that only the top half of the man could be seen, not the dog team, sled or trail itself. Another clip was of ice flowing in a stream or river (not sure which) that was mostly blocked. The smaller LDL would work better when video & photographs are aired, like is currently done during the LF or programs like It Could Happen Tomorrow, Storm Stories, etc. Maybe the larger LDL could be timed to come up after or be taken down during the video/photo portions or possibly the video itself could be resized to fit above the LDL.

Nice job with this! I like the new icons. Like most of you, I did not like the last set of icons. The new one are easy to see and of what i've seen so far, you can tell exactly what each icon stands for.

However, I would like to see the clock brought back somewhere on the LDL.

The smaller LDL bar is used during the most popular shows such as First Outlook, Wake Up With Al, Your Weather Today w/ Abrams & Bettes, WeatherCenter, and Weekend View (7am - 11am edition)

The icon for "rain" and "showers" is the same. The icon for "showers nearby" is also the shower icon. I hope I could find a set of icons, but weather.com still has the old ones.

The smaller LDL bar is used during the most popular shows such as First Outlook, Wake Up With Al, Your Weather Today w/ Abrams & Bettes, WeatherCenter, and Weekend View (7am - 11am edition)
Why don't they use the small bar no matter what show is on?

I'm predicting that they might adjust the screen size of the national segments in the future to accommodate the large satellite LDL during those segments. I'm guessing that they are not using the left portion of the small LDL right now, since they have plans to add a sidebar in the next update.

They plan to add a side bar in the next update?
Find Michelin tires at this dealer near you because so much is riding on your tires.

No. The left, blank portion of the LDL is for ads.
