Here's a better look from Wikipedia at what Cinco De Mayo is about:
Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "5th of May") is primarily a regional and not an obligatory federal holiday in Mexico. The holiday commemorates an initial victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín over French forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The date is observed in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.
A common misconception in the United States is that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico's Independence Day; Mexico's Independence Day is actually September 16 (dieciséis de septiembre in Spanish), which is the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.
Ask any American what Cinco De Mayo means besides what the English translation is, the extremely high percentage won't have a clue. Also, they think this day is about celebrating Mexican heritage and culture? Give me a break. This was about a Mexican war where their army defeated the French and expelled them from occupation of Mexico City in 1867. Why Americans should care about this is beyond me. Yes, we have Mexicans (legally and especially ILLEGALLY living in this country) whose heritage and culture are respected, but Cinco De Mayo has no place in this country. Then again, an increasing number of Mexicans that enter this country (especially those that illegally do) have shown ZERO respect of OUR laws, culture and way of life... meaning they refuse to assimilate. They only want our jobs, money and most of all, the "perks" for living here. And they'll even commit additional crimes such as identity theft just to get it.
Oops, I forgot. I see an increasing number of American holidays hijacked by the Latino community where for political correctness or to appease their activist groups have to include celebration elements that have nothing to do with what the holiday means and who it pays tribute to. Memorial Day, Independence Day and Columbus Day are the most prominent examples. Just look at the parades in recent years.
And no, I don't have any problems with Latinos. So don't even accuse me of having a bias or anything. I have friends that are of Latino (or Hispanic) heritage and enjoy some of what their culture has to offer. In regards to illegal immigration, the issue may be dominated by Mexico, but the Irish Prime Minister had the audacity to go to President Bush on May 1st and demand amnesty for his Irish citizens illegally living here.
One more thing... anyone even know that May 1st was Law Day? Betcha you guys are shrugging your shoulders right now, aren't you? What happened four days ago? To the completely utmost irony, open border advocates and socio-ethnocentric interests groups decided to hold their amnesty marches on the streets of Los Angeles, Chicago and a few other cities to protest our immigration laws (which continue to be shamefully NOT enforced). You talk about not respecting our country, that was as blatant as you can get.
So to me, Cinco De Mayo is just another one of those days on the calendar as an excuse to drink. Screw Cinco De Mayo. Want so much to celebrate it? Go to the state of Puebla in Mexico and you can have a festive time.

You basically repeated what I posted earlier about what Cinco De Mayo is. But yes, it's a nice excuse to go out a drink tequilas.

I'm really not a huge fan of straight Tequila, but I love it in Margaritas.
Of course I've never had good quality Tequila so...

I personally had 4 years of Español in high school as an elective. My high school offered Spanish, German, and French. My senior year was the first year they offered Japanese. So they now teach 4 foreign languages there, all as electives, meaning that anybody can choose to take them, or to not take them.

What in God's name does "Neskara" mean? Are you talking about Nebraska? What statistic did draw up that Spanish spoken more in that state than most others in this country? Where do you draw any conclusions from anyway?
It may not be statistically a fact based on numbers of actual citizens and legal residents from other countries in Illinois and Colorado, but think about the illegal immigrant population in Chicago and Denver.
A majority percentage of those are from Mexico. That will raise the amount Spanish spoken in those cities (in addition to the American citizens as well as any legal residents from Latin American countries that are here).
And where do you draw the conclusion that Pennsylvanians cannot speak Spanish? Same thing. Even though it is of the minority, there is a Latino population in the state, especially in the two main urban areas of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
It's beyond ridiculous that Spanish should be forced upon Americans in the first place. The United States was founded as an English speaking country and Spanish should be second OPTION, not a requirement. Because of the increased number of illegal immigrants from especially Mexico that cause overcrowding in our schools who are slow to learn or refuse to learn English (which should be the official language, by the way), school systems are telling students they have to learn Spanish. Talk about backwards here.
