I just realized that I recorded "Celestial Soda Pop" and "Sleigh Ride" last year.

LOT8S - I just reviewed both clips and they played all the way through for me. Did you download them or is your browser trying to steam them? If it's streaming, then there's a good chance it's a bandwidth issue (since I don't have a steaming server).

Hey Matt, just out of curiosity, when do you think the new IS guide will be up? I take it you had no issues with it.

All those unknowns I don't know, but I've never heard the old narration get that detailed. Also, who's the woman in some of them?

Yah, isn't that annoying? No wonder they simplified it within a short time! No idea who the woman is.

Yah, I don't get it. I have the same problem at home, but not at work. The originals play fine as well. I'd ask my host to investigate, but since the problem isn't consistant, I'm not sure what to do. :hairout:

hey matt, thanks for the update. I was checking out some of the star videos from Montana and the Dakotas which I thought were pretty cool since its the first time I've seen stars that that part of the country with the exception of a trip I went on to Wyoming and Montana about 5 years ago which I came across a jr. and 4000 (no videos of that though).

This problem still seems to be happening for me too for not just the new videos posted on this thread, but also on most of the videos in the Video section of the website (regardless of FLV or WMV).
Chief Wiggum: Send in the clowns! (Homer chuckles) So Simpson, which one is it?
Homer Simpson: (still chuckling) Well, if the crime is making me laugh, they're all guilty. - "The Simpsons"

Punky: I can't wait til it rains!
Cherie: Me too, I hope we have a thunder storm!
Punky: Maybe we'll get real lucky and have a hurricane! - "Punky Brewster"

I don't know what to do. My host is of no help because they can't recreate the problem. They said if it happens again to do a tracert of the file and send them the results. So, the next time this happens, open a command prompt and type tracert and the path to the file you're having issues with. Post the results here (or PM me). If you're not familar on how to save the results, you can follow the instructions on this page. Thanks.

My host replied and said it is clearly an ISP issue. And looking at the results, I can see that (the timeout occurs before it reaches the host). But still, this doesn't make sense to me.

Those of you who have experienced this problem - do you have the same issue with other sites (where you can download WMVs or watch FLVs - in particular, TWCT)? Has this only recently occurred? And finally, does it occur with all/most videos? Or just ones that have been recently posted? Thanks.

Scratch that. I asked them the questions myself and hopefully found the answer. They had set my site's memory too low. So they raised it and now everything seems to be good. Guess it pays to be a pain in a** sometimes. :psst:

For those of you that were having trouble, please verify on your end. Thanks!

If my host can't find a solution, I might have a backup plan. I did some research and it seems Amazon's Simple Storage Solution might be the answer. So I signed up for an account and uploaded a few files for testing. In particular, ones that people were having trouble viewing on this server. I tested them out and (surprise) they played just fine. Before brining this news to my host, I want to make sure I'm not the only one. Please try the following files and let me know how they play. Thanks.

Hi Matt,

The links you provided seem to work fine when I played them. But when I went back to various videos the same problem occurs. Even when I downloaded them the same problem. But the audio clips play fine on my laptop. Now I tried alot of the audio clips on a computer at work and alot of them were cut short- some 10 sec. some 40 sec.

I've had no trouble downloading or playing back videos (WMA or FLV) either in this thread or in the site. If I find any that won't I'll be sure to let you know.

The "unpredictible file" is the only one that works for me. Under the downloads section. The FLV all work for me.

Okay. I guess I'll have to move all the content to Amazon. Hopefully I can get that done this week. Thanks, guys.

Matt I am considering packing up TWCT and moving elsewhere. You are not alone with these issues. For 2 days I could barely view posts or access my forum thanks to the memory settings for the database being too low. They finally raised it enough. They must have implemented some new policies or something because since before Christmas I have been having nearly non-stop troubles. I am looking at other hosts at the moment myself.

I'd do that too, but 95% of hosts out there suck. So it's nearly impossible for find a decent one. In the 12 years I've been hosting this site, I've gone through at least half a dozen hosts. HostGo is the only decent one I've found (and in all fairness, they've been very good to this point). Well, that and i-dentity.com. The only problem I had with them was that they were a little too expensive. Of course, the last time I used them was many years ago. For all I know, they could be terrible now.

If you find a good host, please share! :D
